COACHES

WE QUITE LITERALLY COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU! THANK YOU, COACHES, FOR YOUR TIME + EFFORT AND ALL THE FUN + KNOWLEDGE YOU BRING TO EACH + EVERY RIDE!

NICA’s comprehensive coach education program provides new and existing coaches with high-quality training and resources needed to be confident, competent, and empowered leaders on their youth mountain bike teams. NICA coaches not only create amazing experiences for student-athletes, they create a foundation for building healthy mountain bike communities. NICA coaches change lives!

One of our goals as the Truckee MTB Team Board is to make receiving your Level One Coaches Certification as easy as possible and also to encourage more responsibility over time. Succession planning is an important part of keeping a vibrant Truckee MTB Team thriving as the years roll by and different generations of families join the team.

Please take the time to read over the information below. For 2024, we have added a few perks like TrailForks Membership and a cellphone holding device to encourage trail knowledge + route finding competencies.

Below we hope you will find the resources you need to access training and discounts. Feedback + questions are always welcome.

Sincerely,

Luca + Justin + Eric

LEVEL ONE FAQ:

How long will it take for me to get my Level One?

The Level 1 program will take approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, which can be done online at your leisure.

Do I have to be an experienced mountain biker to coach?

No. If you can provide our riders with encouragement and are willing to learn alongside them, then you are qualified to coach. Coaching is more listening than directing. This is one of the few sports that, as a coach, you can participate alongside with your child. Unlike other sports, you will ride trails with them and we hope that you too, will learn to love this lifelong sport.

Why do I need this certification?

Education, safety, and liability. NICA requires this educational process to ensure the safety of our students and protect our coaches. Additionally, each level provides great information and tools for new coaches.

Level 1 is needed to join a team for more than one ride. NICA stipulates “Any prospective, non-licensed adult may participate ONE TIME with a team, with only a waiver signed.  After this, they need a minimum L1.”

Where do I register and do my online training?

All team registrations + coaches training take place on www.pitzone.nationalmtb.org. Once you have volunteered to be a coach, you will receive an email invitation.
